How to Manage Ramadan Reservations for Restaurants in Qatar (Iftar & Suhoor Guide)

Published · العربية

Ramadan is the busiest and most unforgiving month for restaurants in Qatar. Here is how to plan seatings, groups and the sunset rush so every table is full.

Why Ramadan is different for restaurants in Qatar

During Ramadan, most of the evening's demand arrives in a single moment: sunset. Guests want to be seated and served the second the Maghrib call to prayer ends, which means your entire dining room fills within minutes instead of over a whole evening.

Then comes a second wave. Suhoor gatherings run late into the night, often with large family and corporate groups. Restaurants in Doha that treat Ramadan like a normal month end up with overbooked tables at Iftar, empty tables at Suhoor and a lot of frustrated guests.

1. Split the night into fixed seatings

Instead of open-ended reservations, define clear seatings. A typical setup is one Iftar seating starting at sunset and one or two Suhoor seatings later in the night. Because sunset time changes every day, update your Iftar start time daily or let your reservation system follow the published prayer times.

  • Iftar seating: starts at sunset, fixed duration (for example 90 minutes).
  • Suhoor seating 1: from around 9 or 10 pm.
  • Suhoor seating 2: late night, for groups and gatherings.

2. Protect your capacity for large groups

Ramadan in Qatar is the season of family gatherings and corporate Iftars. Large groups are valuable, but one cancelled table of 20 can wipe out a whole seating. Block a fixed number of large tables on your floor plan for groups, require confirmation a day before, and consider a deposit or set menu for bookings above a certain size.

3. Confirm every booking on WhatsApp

Most guests in Qatar answer WhatsApp faster than email or calls. Send a confirmation when the booking is made and a reminder on the day, with a one-tap option to cancel. A guest who cancels in advance is far better than a guest who simply does not arrive at sunset.

4. Run a real waitlist at the door

Walk-ins will still arrive, especially in malls and busy areas like The Pearl, Katara and Lusail. Keep a digital waitlist instead of a paper list: take the guest's number, give a realistic wait time and notify them when their table is ready. When a reserved guest does not show up, you can seat the next guest in seconds.

5. Prepare your team and your floor plan before Ramadan starts

  • Update your floor plan for the Ramadan layout, including extra tables or majlis areas.
  • Publish Ramadan hours on Google Business Profile, Instagram and your website.
  • Open Ramadan bookings two to three weeks in advance so you can see demand early.
  • Brief hosts on the seating plan, group rules and the waitlist process.

6. Learn from this year for next year

Track occupancy per seating, no-shows and the share of bookings from each channel. After Eid, review which nights and seatings were full and which were not. Those numbers make next Ramadan in Qatar easier to plan and more profitable.
